When Disney announced the casting of Halle Bailey, of the music group ChloeXHalle, as Ariel in Disney’s live action “The Little Mermaid” remake, some expressed displeasure that an African- American woman would play the role. But the original Ariel, Jodi Benson, who voiced the mermaid in original 1989 movie, clapped back at trolls. “I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters,” Benson told The Shaderoom. “What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart and their spirit is what really counts.” The film is expected to start production in April 2020.
Jaden Smith serves homeless people in his new vegan food truck.
Jaden Smith, the 21-year-old singer and actor, has taken to the streets of Los Angeles to unveil his new vegan I Love You food truck and offering free meals to those without homes. This is the second community-minded endeavor by Smith, the son of Will and Jada, who just released his album “Erys.” Last year, Smith started an eco-friendly water company with his dad. This food truck is just as start as Smith stated on his instagram, “Keep a look out because this is the first of many.”
Diddy hints at return of ‘Making the Band’
Looks like Diddy has made up his mind. After the media and music mogul took to Twitter and Instagram recently to ask, “Should I do ‘Making the Band’ again? If y’all want me to bring it back, leave a comment with #IWantMyMTB.” Fans went wild, with the post getting nearly 35,000 comments in 24 hours. “Making The Band” went off the air 10 years ago and produced the groups Danity Kane and Day26. Both bands achieved two No. 1 albums and several top 10 hits.
A$AP Rocky arrested in Sweden after an altercation he had with two men that kept following him.
The U.S. government is getting involved with A$AP Rocky’s case in Sweden. Last week the Harlem-born rapper turned himself in and was arrested last week following a street fight with two men. According to the rapper and his entourage, the two men were following the group and harassing women and then forced the rapper and his group to defend themselves against an attack. A State Department spokesperson said the government is aware of the case and pishing to make sure the rapper is being fairly treated. Rocky is being held in solitary confinement and if convicted could face six years in a Swedish prison.
